How to Start Crimson Desert DLC

Quick Answer

To start Crimson Desert DLC activities, install Charting the Unknown, update the game on your platform, and choose the quest track that matches what you want to play.

To start Crimson Desert DLC activities, install Charting the Unknown, update the game on your platform, and choose the quest track that matches what you want to play. For the ocean-focused A Wider World quest, complete Howling Hill and continue expanding the Greymane camp. For the new individual Kliff, Oongka and Damiane stories, complete Journey's End and open the Journal.

There is no single opening quest that unlocks every expansion system at once. Housing, businesses, ocean progression and post-game challenges have different conditions. If one activity is missing, check that activity's requirements before assuming that the expansion itself failed to install.

Confirm the expansion rather than only the update

Charting the Unknown is the separately sold expansion. Crimson Desert Enhanced is the updated base game, and existing owners received that upgrade without purchasing the expansion. Seeing Enhanced on the game's title or storefront is therefore not enough to confirm access to Charting the Unknown.

Review your platform's owned content and installation status for the exact expansion name. Apply the latest update available for that installation. At the November 1 snapshot, version 2.04.04 is available on Steam, PlayStation and Epic, while Xbox and the Mac App Store remain pending in its rollout table.

Use the status for your own storefront. A pending hotfix rollout and an absent paid expansion are different checks, so do not use a version number from another platform as the sole test of whether your purchase has been recognized. Establish the entitlement and installed content first, then move on to the relevant quests.

A five-hour base-game trial is not a route into Charting the Unknown. If you are playing a trial, do not expect completing an early quest during that trial to activate the separately purchased expansion's systems. Start with a setup that actually has the content you intend to play.

Choose your first quest track

A Wider World expanded in the Charting the Unknown faction quest Journal

Select the ocean faction quest track rather than looking for one universal DLC opening.

What you want to beginMain conditionInterface to inspect
Ocean progressionHowling Hill and sufficient Greymane camp expansionThe new faction quest track containing A Wider World.
A protagonist's new storyJourney's End completedJournal entries for Kliff, Oongka or Damiane.
Expanded home constructionHowling Hill camp established and Luke's Request completedHome Decoration, then Layout and Free Construction.
A managed businessThe relevant liberated facility and faction progressionThe map's Facilities tab and associated quest.
Garden of TrialsJourney's End completedThe challenge location near Axiom Archive Abyss.

Pick one row before setting out. A player seeking a ship should investigate the camp and ocean route, while a player seeking a protagonist's narrative continuation should check the main-story ending. The same missing Journal entry does not explain both situations.

This also helps if you started a new playthrough shortly before the expansion arrived. Owning the expansion does not restore progress that the active save has not made. Check the current save's quest completion rather than relying on what you completed in a different playthrough.

Unlock A Wider World through camp development

Complete Howling Hill in the main story and establish the Greymane camp there. Then continue the camp's faction and development tasks. A Wider World begins after the camp has expanded beyond its required level, so the initial camp establishment is a milestone rather than the end of the preparation.

Open the faction quest area and review the new Charting the Unknown entries. Look for A Wider World, then select its available objective so that you are following the ocean track. This is more reliable than traveling at random to a tavern mentioned by another player's different character quest.

If A Wider World has not appeared, return to the available Greymane camp tasks and progress those that expand the camp. The required camp level is not given as a numeric target in the launch conditions. Follow the actual development quests on your save rather than buying or building toward an arbitrary number.

Once the ocean quest appears, use its marker and current objective. Obtaining a ship, pioneering an island and completing a character story are separate activities. Let the ocean introduction establish your next step instead of treating all expansion icons as stages of the same mission.

Work toward a usable ship

Ships can be constructed through a dispatch mission or bought from fleetmasters. These are two acquisition routes, so identify which option your current progression and resources can support. A ship purchase and a construction assignment are not the same menu action, and each presents its own requirements.

Use the available mission or fleetmaster interface to inspect what is needed before committing resources. In the construction route, camp resources and assigned comrades matter. In the purchase route, use the actual vessel offer rather than assuming your personal and camp funds are interchangeable.

Ships also support maritime trading, and fleetmasters in Demeniss and Delesyia sell customization parts. Those options become useful after the first acquisition step; they are not a reason to postpone every ocean activity until you can afford the largest vessel shown in a late-game video.

When preparing your first voyage, account for the comrades you have assigned elsewhere. A business and a ship can draw on the same pool of available companions. Check your crew and current assignments before expanding a land operation that leaves you short of the people needed for the activity you wanted to start.

Start post-game character stories from the Journal

Finish Journey's End from the main story before expecting the new individual protagonist quests. The expansion adds one new quest for each of Kliff, Oongka and Damiane, and those quests are accessed through the Journal after that milestone.

Inspect the Journal entries rather than waiting for a universal expansion-start message. Choose the character story you want to follow and track its current objective. A location named in one protagonist's new quest is not automatically the opening location for the other two.

If you have not completed Journey's End on the active save, continue the main story for this specific goal. You can still work toward other expansion systems in the meantime, but camp progression does not replace the ending requirement for these individual narrative quests.

Garden of Trials uses the same main-story milestone but has its own location near Axiom Archive Abyss. It is a combat challenge with 10 groups, not the first stage of all three stories. If your aim is narrative, start with the Journal; if your aim is the challenge mode, use the corresponding location after the ending.

Open housing and business systems independently

For Free Construction, establish the camp in Howling Hill and complete Luke's Request under Grounds of the Sunrise. Then open Home Decoration > Layout > Free Construction. This route gives you the structural building options rather than merely a list of older furnishing recipes.

If the structural option is absent, check Luke's Request and the camp requirement first. Finding a furnishing workstation or owning a blueprint does not substitute for the housing quest. Those objects can serve the earlier decoration system without establishing that the expansion's free construction route is ready.

For business management, follow the relevant faction tasks and inspect the Facilities tab on the map. Timberham Sawmill introduces leasing and operation through Renewed Vitality. Read its notice, inspect its lease and visit the managed area when the quest directs you there.

Opening a business requires more than accepting a lease. Assign the correct staff, choose goods and place the installations those goods require. Treat those as the first business tasks rather than searching for an additional DLC activation item after the management interface is already available.

Diagnose the missing activity you actually want

If the new ocean track is absent, inspect Howling Hill and camp development. If the individual stories are absent, inspect Journey's End and the Journal. If housing options are absent, inspect Luke's Request. These checks target the relevant gate instead of sending you through the whole expansion's progression every time.

An existing quest's current objective is another useful checkpoint. Select the relevant entry and inspect what it is asking now. A quest that has already begun can direct you to a later action, so repeatedly searching for its original introduction may make a working route look missing.

Avoid turning a player's particular starting location into a universal instruction. One player may receive a character objective in Pailune while another is still developing the camp for A Wider World. Your save state and selected activity explain that difference more directly than an assumption that everyone must report to the same NPC first.

If the content is installed but your chosen activity is still absent, retain the specific facts of the problem: the active save, completed prerequisite quest, relevant menu and platform version. That makes the next investigation precise without replacing a missing requirement with a guessed camp level or an unrelated quest chain.

Keep destination saves compatible

A save created while Charting the Unknown is installed cannot be loaded or used for cross-save in a game version without the DLC. Before moving an expansion-enabled save to another setup, check the destination's content access as well as its version.

This is particularly important when your normal routine involves two platforms. Confirm that both setups can support the save before continuing with the expansion on one of them. Then return to your selected route: camp and A Wider World for ocean progression, the Journal after Journey's End for the new stories, or the separate housing and facility interfaces for those systems.
