The Crimson Desert diving suit can refer to the Charter’s preorder outfit or to diving equipment obtained during Charting the Unknown. If you own the expansion’s preorder bonus, check Others > Add-ons for the exclusive bonus and then equip the claimed pieces from your inventory. If you did not preorder, diving equipment and blueprints are available through Relic Exchange vendors; lacking the preorder outfit does not mean all breathing gear is unavailable.
The helmet and chest piece are the important breathing components. Gloves and boots improve swimming movement rather than providing the same large air-capacity boost. Depth still matters: oxygen drains faster as you descend, so a larger breathing capacity is not a guarantee of a fixed number of safe minutes at every underwater location.
Identify Which Diving Set You Are Looking For
Before searching a port or opening menus, decide whether your goal is to claim an entitlement or acquire ordinary exploration equipment. The Charter’s Diving Set is associated with the expansion’s preorder bonus. That specific ownership condition is different from purchasing the expansion after release and then obtaining equipment through its systems.
An Add-ons reward is claimed through the game’s menu. A blueprint is an acquisition step toward crafting an item. A completed piece bought from a vendor goes straight toward your equipment setup. Confusing those three routes can leave you searching merchants for a bonus you already own or trying to redeem a blueprint as though it were an account reward.
| What you have | What to do next | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Expansion preorder bonus entitlement | Check the Add-ons menu for the bonus | That the equipment is already worn |
| A diving blueprint | Read its crafting requirements and prepare the item | That a completed suit was granted |
| A completed diving piece | Find and equip it on the intended character | That every other piece is equipped too |
| Expansion ownership without preorder | Check the Relic Exchange equipment route | That the Charter’s bonus is included |
The names of normal and light variants can differ between characters. Check the actual piece’s compatible wearer and effect in your inventory instead of relying only on the outfit’s overall name. For breathing preparation, the decisive question is what your currently controlled character has equipped.
Claim the Charter’s Preorder Bonus
Use the account that owns the expansion’s preorder entitlement. Owning the original base game’s preorder items is a separate condition and does not establish ownership of the Charting the Unknown preorder bonus.
- Open the pause menu during the game.
- Open Others and select Add-ons.
- Look for the preorder exclusive bonus associated with the expansion.
- Claim the reward when that option is available.
- Open your equipment inventory and find the diving pieces.
- Equip the helmet and suit on the character you intend to use underwater.
- Check the gloves and boots separately if you also want their movement bonuses.

Claiming and equipping are separate steps. A successful claim does not automatically tell you which character is wearing the gear or whether another outfit remains selected. If you enter the water and see little breathing capacity, inspect the equipment slots before returning to the redemption menu.
Do not look for this menu reward in a random underwater chest. Likewise, a camp storage chest is not a substitute for the Add-ons claim screen. Follow the entitlement route first, then use inventory to confirm the result.
Get Diving Equipment Without the Preorder Outfit
Relic Exchange vendors provide an alternative route to diving equipment. Their stock can include blueprints, completed pieces, and breathing devices. This is why a missing Charter’s bonus should not be interpreted as a permanent block on underwater exploration.
One early equipment route is the vendor associated with the island you pioneer during A Wider World. That route offers diving-part blueprints and an Explorer’s Breathing Device blueprint. Another reported vendor at Demeniss port offers completed diving pieces and a Propulsion Breathing Device blueprint.
Use those as two different acquisition options. A blueprint route requires you to inspect and satisfy its crafting requirements; buying a finished piece avoids that specific crafting step but still requires the vendor’s requested currency. Do not assume every vendor has identical stock or that buying one blueprint supplies all parts of the set.
A Wider World begins after Howling Hill and sufficient Greymane camp development. The official conditions do not give an exact numerical camp level. If the island-vendor route is not yet available in your save, progress the relevant camp and ocean quests rather than treating the absence of the preorder outfit as the cause.
The alternative equipment route should also remain distinct from acquiring the Charter’s cosmetic set itself. Access to breathing equipment does not prove a later shop sells the exact preorder-exclusive names. Pick the route that solves the practical problem: increasing air and movement for your next underwater journey.
Prioritize the Helmet and Chest Piece
The Charter’s Diving Helm and Charter’s Diving Suit each list a maximum-breathing increase of 120. Equipping both combines those bonuses for a total increase of 240. This is the main reason to inspect these slots before making a long descent.
The Charter’s Diving Gloves and Boots each list a 2% swim-speed multiplier. Their purpose is movement, and they do not replace the breathing capacity provided by the two major pieces. A character wearing only the gloves and boots can look partly equipped while still missing the largest air increase.
| Piece | Listed benefit | Preparation priority |
|---|---|---|
| Charter’s Diving Helm | +120 maximum breathing | Equip for increased air capacity |
| Charter’s Diving Suit | +120 maximum breathing | Pair with the helm |
| Charter’s Diving Gloves | 2% swim-speed multiplier | Add for movement |
| Charter’s Diving Boots | 2% swim-speed multiplier | Add for movement |

Check the helmet and suit among the claimed pieces before equipping.
Do not convert the combined bonus into an unconditional promise of four extra minutes on the ocean floor. The same capacity lasts differently depending on depth. Your displayed breath gauge and the actual drain during the route are more useful than an assumed timer based only on the item values.
When comparing a newly obtained piece with your current gear, read its breathing effect and refinement state. Similar names or silhouettes are not enough to establish identical current capacity. This is especially relevant when you are replacing one part at a time instead of claiming an entire bonus outfit together.
Improve Capacity Through Refinement and Breathing Devices
Refining diving equipment increases maximum breath capacity. That gives the equipment a progression route beyond simply obtaining it. Inspect the chosen item’s current refinement requirements before collecting materials, because the relevant action is upgrading that particular piece, not applying a generic armor improvement to any outfit.
Breathing devices occupy another part of the exploration setup. The Explorer’s Breathing Device is a backpack-slot item associated with increased breathing capacity and swimming speed. The Propulsion Breathing Device adds underwater propulsion, exchanging stamina for bursts of movement when you use the relevant sprint input underwater.
These devices solve related but different problems. More air extends the opportunity to explore; faster underwater movement helps traverse a route. Neither eliminates the need to monitor the breath gauge. A route that uses propulsion can still end far from a safe return point if you ignore your remaining air.
Read the item you actually obtained before planning around it. A blueprint in your inventory is not an active backpack effect, and an unequipped completed device is not contributing to your current character’s capacity. Confirm construction and equipment as separate checks.
Use the Suit on a Controlled Dive
You can enter the water and dive without first obtaining a ship. A ship becomes useful for reaching distant ocean destinations and using its underwater relic radar to choose places worth investigating. Keep that transport role separate from the suit’s breathing function.
For your first trip in new equipment, begin where you can return to the surface without needing to solve a ruin or navigate a long cave. Check the breath display after equipping the gear, descend, and watch how the drain changes as you go deeper. This establishes what your current setup allows on that route without assuming every dive behaves alike.
- Equip the intended character’s breathing pieces and device.
- Choose a nearby dive that has a clear surface return.
- Enter the water and use the dive command.
- Watch the breath gauge while changing depth.
- Return for air before the supply is exhausted.
- Attempt a longer route only after checking its approach and return path.
Some underwater interactions, including sunfish, can restore oxygen. Treat those as opportunities encountered during exploration, not a guaranteed supply waiting beside every objective. Surfacing remains the regular way to recover your breath, and an unknown creature location should not be the only basis for committing to a deep route.
Diagnose Missing Gear Without Assuming the Same Cause
If the Add-ons bonus is absent, first check the entitlement: correct account, correct expansion, and preorder ownership. If the claim was successful but you cannot see the effect, check inventory, character compatibility, and the equipped slots. Those are different failure points and need different checks.
Launch-period Xbox players reported that their bonus did not appear even though the storefront showed ownership. These reports mean a blank Add-ons screen is not sufficient evidence that you missed the preorder. They also do not establish that every Xbox account has the same problem or that a particular later patch resolves it.
As of November 1, the 2.04.04 hotfix is available on Steam PC, Steam Mac, PlayStation, and Epic Games Store, while Xbox and Mac App Store are still pending in its published rollout table. That hotfix fixes a specific key-item equipment duplication issue involving Greymane comrades. It does not list a general fix for missing preorder entitlements.
Check the latest update available for your own platform, then keep the problem precise if support is needed: bonus not displayed, claim not granted, item not found, or item equipped without the expected effect. Repeatedly claiming a bonus or hunting unrelated merchants will not clarify which of those stages failed.
