Crimson Desert Mounts and Travel

Quick Answer

Crimson Desert mounts use several acquisition systems. Horses are obtained through story progress, stables, or a taming minigame. Some unusual animals become Special Mounts after subduing and feeding them, while certain legendary creatures require a reward material converted into a summoning sigil at a witch. Charting the Unknown adds ships and underwater mounts with their own acquisition and use conditions.

Choose a mount for the journey you are making rather than expecting one creature to handle every terrain and activity. Ground travel, flight, cargo transport, and underwater exploration are different jobs. A creature you can ride temporarily is also not necessarily registered in your collection, so check for the completed unlock before leaving its location.

Choose the Acquisition System Before Approaching

A horse, a hostile bear, a legendary boss reward, and a ship do not all use the same capture action. Identify the category first so you do not kill an animal you intended to tame or keep feeding a creature whose unlock actually depends on crafting a sigil.

This is a guide to choosing and unlocking useful categories rather than a total count of every variant. Updates have changed which creatures can be registered, so judge a particular encounter by its current interaction options and collection result rather than an old blanket description of its species.

Start With a Horse and Improve Its Setup

Your first horse becomes available shortly after the prologue. Horses provide a straightforward land-travel option while the more specialized mount systems develop. Riding advances a horse’s progression, and equipment can improve the mount’s setup.

Stables and saddlery-related services provide horse equipment such as saddles, horseshoes, stirrups, and protective tack. Inspect the effects of the actual item before buying it. Improving an existing horse can be a more immediate change than abandoning it for a distant legendary target you are not ready to tame.

Horse-taming minigame with the rider staying on a bucking horse

For a wild horse, approach and mount it to begin the taming minigame. Move your directional input opposite the way the horse faces, toward its tail, and keep responding as it turns. The aim is to fill the taming bar while staying mounted.

An overhead camera view can make the horse’s changing direction easier to read. It does not remove the minigame or replace the need for sufficient stamina. If you repeatedly lose the attempt near the end, check that you are reacting to the horse’s current direction rather than holding the same input throughout.

After a successful attempt, confirm the horse’s registration. Briefly sitting on an NPC’s mount or riding an animal during a quest is not proof that it has become a permanent member of your collection.

Compare the Three Legendary Horses by the Trip

Rokade, Royler, and Camora are the named legendary horses to consider. Their locations and attributes provide different reasons to pursue them. Use the region and landmark first, then inspect the particular horse rather than taming the nearest ordinary animal and expecting the same result.

HorseLocation referenceUseful selection context
RokadeSteel Mountains near Spire of InsightA land-travel target accessible from the Hernand region
RoylerPailune lake near Snowgrass Hearth, around the P labelA horse noted for its stamina and movement attributes
CamoraRedtree Forest in the southern Crimson Desert regionAnother distinct legendary-horse option in the eastern part of the world

Their taming can be more demanding than ordinary horse attempts. Prepare for continued turning and bucking, and use the same directional principle rather than expecting a different capture system just because the horse is legendary.

Do not choose purely by coat color unless appearance is your goal. Look at the horse’s actual attributes and your route. A stamina-oriented choice and a sturdier choice serve different preferences, while the time required to reach and tame either can matter more than a small theoretical advantage early in your save.

Register Unusual Animals Through Trust

Some bears, lions, wolves, raptors, iguanas, deer, and other unusual animals can become Special Mounts. The important distinction is whether the individual creature supports that route. A temporary ride from an older encounter does not prove that every later variant remains temporary.

For applicable hostile animals, subdue them until the ride prompt becomes available. Mount the creature and use the appropriate food to raise Trust. For the land animals described by this system, reach 100 Trust and select Take In to register the mount.

  1. Identify a creature that supports Special Mount registration.
  2. Subdue it or take control through the applicable encounter.
  3. Ride it and open inventory.
  4. Expand the food’s Use action and choose Feed.
  5. Check Trust and continue with the appropriate food.
  6. Select Take In when the registration condition is met.
  7. Confirm the creature in Special Mounts.

Raw meat is used for examples such as bears, lions, large wolves, and raptors. Raw vegetables serve examples such as giant iguanas, ibex, and Rosehorn Deer. Match the food to the animal rather than treating meat as a universal taming ingredient.

An enemy rider can complicate the approach. A Red-Feathered Raptor, for example, can be encountered under a hostile rider. Taking control and reaching a position where you can feed it are separate parts of the task. Keep the animal alive during that process instead of treating every enemy nearby as the creature you must defeat for a sigil.

Use Sigils for Legendary and Boss Mounts

Some named creatures use a hunt or boss-reward route instead of the ordinary Trust capture system. Obtain the required special material, visit a witch, and use the crafting options to create the corresponding summoning sigil. Then use the crafted sigil from inventory to finish the unlock.

Witch crafting menu showing Sigil of Solidarity for White Bear
MountMain reward routeRegistration distinction
Silver FangComplete the Black Fang-related progression, then hunt Silver Fang at Howling HollowCraft and use the associated sigil
White BearHunt the named White Bear in the Five-Finger Mountain areaIts special material is used for the sigil
Snowwhite DeerHunt the named deer around Silverwolf MountainUse the specific legendary reward rather than tame an ordinary deer
Icicle Edge Alpine IbexDefeat the Mistwood Huntmaster through the relevant Pailune progressionBoss reward precedes sigil crafting
Rock Tusk WarthogDefeat Ravok of the Savage Fangs near the Tashkalp and Red River areaBoss reward is distinct from taming an ordinary ridden boar

Crafting and using are separate steps. If you have the material but no mount, inspect the witch’s Special Items options. If you crafted the sigil but still see no unlock, check whether you used the inventory item. Returning to defeat the same target again may not be the missing action.

Quest-related targets also need their own progression. Silver Fang should not be treated as an unrelated wolf that always appears just because you reached Howling Hollow. The Black Fang quest progression matters. Likewise, the Mistwood Huntmaster is tied to Pailune and Longleaf-related activity rather than being a generic ibex herd.

Keep Flying Mount Routes Distinct

Blackstar is a late-campaign dragon mount, associated with completion of Chapter 11. It is not an early wild-horse-style capture. If your save has not reached that progression, repeatedly visiting a location shown in a late-game demonstration does not replace the story unlock.

The raised wyvern route is a different process: an egg becomes a baby pet, then growth leads to an adult mount. Do not confuse that registered adult with temporarily subduing a wild wyvern. The collection method tells you which result to expect.

A flying mount changes how you cross terrain, but it does not perform every vehicle role. A dragon can reach an island, for example, without becoming a cargo wagon or a ship equipped for maritime trade. Choose it for the approach you want, then check the actual objective’s required systems.

Character gliding equipment is another separate category. Kliff’s wings, Damiane’s propeller, and Oongka’s rocket-pack route are movement tools rather than animals registered in a stable. A guide that includes them under general travel options is not saying they are captured through mount taming.

Add Ocean Transport With Charting the Unknown

The expansion adds ships as a new mount category. Construct one through a dispatch mission or purchase from a fleetmaster. Parts sold at Demeniss and Delesyia fleetmasters support customization, and ships can carry out maritime trading as well as movement across the ocean.

The ocean quest A Wider World begins after Howling Hill and sufficient Greymane camp expansion. That is the relevant progression context for opening the ocean route, while individual ship options still need their own displayed construction or purchase requirements.

Underwater creatures use species-dependent acquisition. Some can be subdued; others require feeding to increase Trust. Once the applicable condition is satisfied, they can be registered. Do not import a land-animal recipe or exact threshold into every aquatic species without checking its interaction.

A shark or orca used underwater serves a different environment from a horse. Check the map’s summonable-location indication for land, mid-air, or underwater use. A failed summon in the wrong context is not automatically a lost registration.

Breathing equipment still matters when you explore below the surface. A faster underwater mount changes movement; it does not establish unlimited air for the rider. Prepare your dive setup and check the breath gauge as part of the same journey.

Choose Vehicles for Cargo and Particular Activities

Wagons have a camp-related permanent acquisition route involving Brice, the Wagon Master, and a construction dispatch. Taking an NPC wagon for a short drive is a different situation from having your own constructed vehicle for carrying trade goods.

Cloudcart is a crafted travel option with blueprint, workshop, and recruitment requirements. ATAG is a story-related armored vehicle with its own combat and upgrade role. Trains can be ridden as transport without becoming a personal animal mount registered through Trust.

These examples help explain why “I can ride it” is only the first classification. The next questions are whether it belongs to you, whether it can be summoned, and which task it supports. A scenic train ride, a cargo delivery, and a legendary-animal collection are all travel activities with different completion conditions.

For the next journey, pick the smallest useful unlock: a reliable horse for land, the correct special creature for its movement or attacks, flight for a terrain crossing, or a ship for ocean systems. Confirm registration or ownership at the end, then equip the transport for the job you actually plan to do.
